Why is the NBA's Atlantic Division so weak?

As of December 13, 2006, the New Jersey Nets lead the Atlantic Division with a record of eight wins and twelve losses, guaranteeing them the fourth seed in the playoffs if the season ended on that day. Now, put all of the teams from that division (the Raptors, the Celtics, the Knicks, and the 76ers) in any division in the Western Conference, and not a single one of those teams would make the playoffs. Jersey wouldn't even be able to get an eighth seed.

Why is it that even with big-name players like Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson, and Paul Pierce playing near the top of their games, Atlantic teams are still getting slapped around like red-headed stepchildren? What are some of your reasons for the disparity?

no dominate big men They cant compete with teams in the west because its all guard play and that is always ify but big men are defiante cause they shoot over 50%

poor teams means poor leadership and personnel. apparently these teams have made some big mistakes and are trying desperately to get out of the whole they've dug themselves in.
It's not only the Atlantic divison, the whole Eastern Conference sucks. They had their power years in the '90s now the Western conference is taking over, and it doesn't look like they are going to be letting up any time soon. GO JAZZ!!!!
yeah, it just happened that the weakest teams in the NBA got into 1 division
IT IS CYCLICAL, THE HAWKS, CELTICS, 76ERS, KNICKS WERE ALL GOOD TEAMS IN THE '90'S. THE NETS HAD BEEN A GOOD TEAM FOR YEARS.
